Children and their parents got to kick off the Mother's Day weekend with a day of fishing.
The Panama City Department of Leisure Services held the event at the Life Management Center on Saturday. Each year, families get a chance to fish for free in a pond stocked with fresh fish. The event is in its 12th year of teaching kids to fish.
If they want, the kids are allowed to keep the fish they catch and they even receive prizes.
Brenda Beichler with the Department of Leisure Services says this is a great way to bring families together. "For a lot of these children it's the first time they've had the opportunity to fish, so we feel that it's good for them to come out. It's good wholesome fun. It's something they can do with their families. The kids really enjoy it," said Beichler.
