It's been a deadly twenty-four hours on Northwest Florida roadways. Four people have died in separate traffic accidents in four counties.
In Jackson County, 27-year-old Angel Mickel of Greenwood was killed at 2:30 this morning when her vehicle ran onto the shoulder of County Road 167 and overturned. The Florida Highway Patrol says Mickel was not wearing a seatbelt, and was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, who was not belted in either, is listed in serious condition at Jackson Hospital in Marianna.
Just after 9:00 last night 48-year-old Stephen Moore died at Walton County Road 280 and Walton Bridge Road. The Florida Highway Patrol says the Ponce De Leon man's Ford pickup left the roadway during a sweeping curve. Moore over-corrected, and his truck collided with a guardrail. Authorities say the vehicle overturned, partially ejecting Moore.
In Holmes County a late afternoon accident claimed the life of 31-year-old Ashron James Chambers of Westville. Troopers say Chambers was Southbound on County Road 181, when he failed to negotiate a turn, lost control and collided with several trees. The FHP says that caused the SUV to spin and roll several times. A passenger suffered serious injuries.
And in Okaloosa County, 19-year-old Alyssa Helwick was killed, on Rattlesnake Bluff Road at 6:15 last night. The Highway Patrol says Helwick lost control of her vehicle while traveling at a high rate of speed, hit an embankment and flipped three times. The woman was ejected. A passenger suffered minor injuries.
