WMBB’s Morning Anchor is an August 2006 Cum Laude graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Bree pursued a double major in Broadcasting and Political Science after graduating from Hickory High School in Chesapeake, VA.
Bree’s college professor called one day shortly after graduation and said she wanted to recommend Bree for a job at a station whose call letters stand for “World’s Most Beautiful Beaches.” Bree thought this was the best idea ever and joined the WMBB staff in November of 2006 as a General Assignment Reporter.
Since making it to the Panhandle, Bree has been blessed with opportunities to meet and interview important decision makers like Vice President Dick Cheney, former President Bill Clinton, Governor Charlie Crist, and Senator Mel Martinez. Bree also covered the infamous Joe Francis- Girls Gone Wild case. You’ll see her footage airing on several national networks. While Bree asks tough questions of those in charge, her favorite stories are the ones she can tell about everyday people. Her most memorable moment on the job to date was getting stuck in the Gulf County Courthouse Elevator.
Bree grew up thinking she was going to be a lawyer until a high school journalism teacher talked some sense into her. She started her broadcasting career by taking intensive television production classes for two years during high school. After serving as Editor-In-Chief for her high school newspaper and an intern for WCTV48, Bree was hooked. She headed off to college with a Dean’s scholarship.
Bree’s family taught her the value of hard work and insisted that she also hold a job while taking classes. In addition to her busy schedule, Bree made time to be a cheerleader, a reporter for VCU InSight, and the Recruitment Director for Sigma Sigma Sigma (the best sorority on campus, obviously). Bree lead her sorority through the biggest recruitment VCU has ever seen. Bree was elected to VCU’s Homecoming Court in 2006.
Always the professional intern, Bree also worked for Virginia Governor Timothy Kaine, Silverman Stock Footage, and WTVR in Richmond.
Bree is always open to hearing story ideas and is fascinated by all things politics, so shoot her an email with your thoughts at bsison@wmbb.com
