Make sure you have all the records you need, including W-2 forms and 1099s. Also, remember to make copies and save them for your personal files.

Pick up the right forms. They are available on the IRS website or at area libraries.

When you start filing, take your time and double check your math.

Verify all social security numbers.  The IRS says these are among the most common errors found on tax returns.

For help on catching those math errors, use E-filing.  It's easy and also gives you a faster refund.

Thursday January 10, 2008 is National Tax Advice Day and H&R Block is hosting a free tax session at the Bay County Library from 11am- 3pm.

You are invited to meet with their tax professionals on a one-to-one basis to discuss your specific tax topics.

There are several tax changes and credits to which you are entitled, that you may not know about.  For example, more than 40% of Bay County residents are elligible for the earned income tax credit, but according to H&R Block, they do not take advantage of it.

So be sure to stop by the Bay County Library on Thursday for free tax help or until then you can call H&R Block at (850) 522-0197.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the most important thing you can do to prepare for filing your taxes is to collect all your records in advance. The H&R Block offices in Panama City and Port St. Joe will also hold open house tax events on Thursday.
