A Bay County visitor is in critical condition after authorities say he walked into oncoming traffic.

The Florida Highway Patrol says it happened just before 4:00 a.m. Sunday on Thomas Drive, just west of Joan Avenue, in front of Hammerhead Fred's restaurant.

Kevin Bartha, 39, from the Tampa area, was walking on the shoulder of Thomas Drive.

Authorities say he attempted to cross the street but was struck by a Kia Sorento.

The driver of the car, Kyle Coleman, 21, of Georgia did stop after the incident.

Authorities say the pedestrian did have alcohol in his system.

He was taken to Bay Medical Center and is in critical condition.

Charges could be pending in the case.
