Panama City Beach, FL--  Beach city leaders are telling property owners to keep it down.

"It's a fun atmosphere fun place," said Shuckum's Oyster Bar & Grill owner Mack Carter, "I don't think we should change the atmosphere."

But some that share Front Beach Rd. disagree.

"We've had a lot of issues with noise," said Aqua condominium operations director Gar Hulion.

That's why the city is proposing a noise ordinance.  It may

The ordinance would set a maximum noise level for different areas on the beach based on their zoning.  The maximum for tourist and business areas would be 70 decibels.  Those violating the ordinance would be subject to oral and written warnings, a misdemeanor or fines up to $500 based on the number of violations.

"It would still put a huge conflict in my business and the full entertainment of the beach and of shuckums and what people come here and look for," said Carter, who's had the restaurant for 28 years.

"People that are moving into condominiums across the street and so forth, they knew what the zonings were when they bought their property," he said.

"When somebody wants to stay here they should be afforded the opportunity to enjoy it quietly," said Hulion, "We all have to work together there's got to be a balance."

"I'm in favor of that," said Carter, "fair and enforceable."

They both say they'll be in attendance at the Noise Ordinance Workshop on Thursday, May 22, at 12:30 p.m at Beach City Hall.
