Imagine this, it's one o'clock in the morning and you are awaken by the smoke detector.  You call 9-1-1, and fire fighters show up and hook up hoses to the fire hydrant, but no water comes out.

It's a possibility that could happen anywhere.  In July of 2007, The New Beginnings Church in Freeport burned to the ground.  Even though fire fighters had water on the church two minutes after arriving at the blaze, they say they had to deal with one major unnecessary issue.  The nearby fire hydrants had low water pressure.

Local fire departments test each fire hydrant twice a year to ensure this same problem doesn't happen.

Chief Richard Morrison, with the City of Lynn Haven said, it is sometimes a nuisance to residents, but it's a necessary task that most residents don't mind.

There are approximately 4950 fire hydrants in Bay County.
