Bay County, FL --  Last month's trial of eight former employees of the Bay county boot camp has cost taxpayers more than $200,000.

That's according to estimates from the State Attorney's Office and one of the attorneys for the defense.

The prosecution so far has spent more than $179,323 on the case. The figure includes taking depositions, travel costs, and expert witnesses.

Deputy Public Defender Walter Smith estimates the defense spent about $50,000 on the case. That number does not include attorneys fees.

On October 12, a jury acquitted seven former guards and a nurse of aggravated manslaughter in the death of Martin Anderson.

The 14 year-old died after his first day at the now-closed boot camp.

Even though the prosecution team was from the Tampa State Attorney's Office, the State Attorney's Office in Bay County foots the bill because it was a local case.
