Bay County Middle Schoolers Wrap Up Spring Tennis Session

Panama City, Fla. -

When tennis was taken out of middle schools in Bay County, teenage tennis fans were left with little options- until the United States Tennis Association stepped in to help out.

Now, the Bay County Junior Tennis League is in full swing. There were six matches held every Saturday at Mosley High school this Spring, with eight teams participating in the fun.

On Saturday, the spring session wrapped up, and trophies were handed out at an awards ceremony.

Holy Nativity dominated the spring, while Bay Haven had the most players signed up to participate with three teams.

Coordinator Ann Talkington says it's good for the kids to get involved with tennis at a young age.

"I think it's real important for players to associate themselves with their school. They take pride in representing their school," she said. "The kids encourage each other to come out. Arnold, Mosley, Rutherford, and Bay all have competitive teams and this does prepare them for that next step."

Now, a summer session will start up in a few weeks. Boys and girls ages 11-18 can participate. The summer session will be held every Monday, starting May 23rd from 5-7 PM. For more information, call 850-866-5228.
