J. Michael Brown - WMBB News 13 - The Panhandle's News Leader

J. Michael Brown

J. Michael Brown took a lap around life and found his way back to WMBB, where it all began.  He joined the News13 team in May 2010 as a Reporter, the same job he accepted right out of college in 1981.  In April 2011, he was named Weekend Anchor.

J. Michael moved to Panama City with his family in 1973.  He graduated from Mosley High School (the first class to attend all four years at the new school), then attended the University of Florida in Gainesville.

While at UF, J. Michael was News Anchor for WRUF-AM/FM and News Anchor/Reporter at WUFT-TV.  After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcasting, he returned to Panama City to begin his communications career.  At WMBB, he served as a General Assignment Reporter and Weekend Anchor before being promoted to Evening News Anchor.

J. Michael left broadcasting to pursue a successful career in marketing and management, eventually serving as Senior Vice President of a Fortune 500 financial services company in Dallas, Texas.  He returned to Panama City in 1999, opened his own business and "moonlighted" as News Anchor for the local NBC affiliate station.

In 2001, he went to work for his family's construction firm which specialized in building in-store banks in major retailers and supermarkets.  As Project Superintendent, he managed construction of more than 50 banks in 24 states.

After thousands of miles, the road finally led back to Panama City – and News13.  J. Michael happily put the suitcase in storage to renew his television career.

When not chasing stories and keeping an eye on deadlines, J. Michael enjoys fishing, golf, listening to music, and following the exploits of his three grown children.  He and his wife, Rebecca, have been married for 20+ years.
