Andrew Ruiz joined the WMBB-TV news team in June 2011. He is a general assignment reporter and covers Bay County, Callaway, Springfield and Parker. Andrew graduated with a bachelor in Telecommunication from the University of Florida.
Before coming to News 13, Andrew served as an Anchor, Reporter and Executive Producer at Florida's 5 WUFT-TV and a Producer/Reporter at WRUF-AM 850. Through his work, he led two groundbreaking projects, a 4-hour long broadcast of local election coverage and during Summer 2010, he traveled to the Florida Panhandle to cover several stories on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. Andrew also completed internships with the University of Florida News Bureau and WTVJ NBC Miami.
Aside from his passion for journalism, Andrew was very involved on campus while studying in Gainesville. He served as the Event Chair for the University of Florida Relay For Life, Vice-President of his fraternity, an Ambassador for the College of Journalism, a leader in several Hispanic groups and a member of Florida Blue Key. He is proud to be a University of Florida Hall of Fame inductee, a Miami Herald Silver Knight and an Eagle Scout.
Andrew was born and raised in South Florida by his Cuban parents. He values his relationship with his tight knit family and friends. Andrew is ecstatic to be living by the beach and when he's not chasing a story, he's enjoying the outdoors, catching up with friends and family, traveling, or giving back to the community.
Andrew believes the best stories are told through people and if you have an idea you'd like to share with him, you can email him at aruiz@wmbb.com or follow his Twitter www.twitter.com/AndrewNRuiz
