UPDATE: The victim of an apparent drowning Saturday in the Gulf of Mexico has been identified.
According to the Panama City Beach Police Department, 86-year-old Rafail Babinskiy apparently drowned in the Gulf of Mexico behind Long Beach Resort on Saturday.
According to police, no autopsy will be performed on Babinskiy due to his families religious beliefs.
A man is dead after swimming in the gulf off Panama City Beach and an autopsy will determine whether he drowned or suffered a heart attack.
Beach Surf and Rescue crews rushed to the scene, behind the Long Beach Resort on Front Beach Road late Saturday afternoon.
Witnesses say the unidentified man was swimming in the Gulf and then appeared to be in distress, possibly from a medical condition and went under water.
By-standers rushed in to help out and paramedics were unsuccessful in reviving the victim.
The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to find out the exact cause of death. The name of the victim has not been released.
