What started as a calm afternoon quickly turned into a horrifying Halloween.
"We were just getting ready to take a walk to look for a cat that we lost." Amy Day said.
Garcie Villot was with her mother Amy, and says, "I was nervous, it almost hit my mom. It was scary.
"When we looked up, we saw a Ford Ranger coming around the corner and I grabbed my daughter and we moved out of the way, and he went into the road and took off." Day said.
Twenty-seven-year-old Matthew Whitney Dykes fled from the Central Credit Union at the intersection of Highway 231 and 19th street. Police say Dykes tried to rob the Credit Union wearing a mask and holding a weapon. Once clerks alerted the police he took off and hit a vehicle as he fled from police.
"He came in 'Dukes of Hazard'. Getting it, digging like that, like Dale Jr. and then hooked up and shot forward and then when he hooked up and shot forward, that's when he came in and hit," Johnson said.
Wanda Wallen saw the suspect zoom by and said, "He want by me so fast, a split, second and we're talking a millimeter."
According to police, once Dykes was chased out of the empty lot, he continued along Sarasota Avenue and ran into the Cart Clinic lot. Dykes abandoned his car and was quickly arrested after he fled on foot and was taken to the Bay County Jail leaving a trail of evidence behind.
Dykes is charged with attempted armed robbery, wearing a mask in a commission of a crime and resisting an officer without violence.
