The Pediatric Services Unit at Gulf Coast Medical Center has received a facelift. The floor, which served more than one thousand patients last year, was recently remodeled.
The area's larges Pediatric Services Unit has 21 beds, and the hospital saw more than twenty one thousand patients in the pediatric emergency room last year.
The floor has been redone and upgraded with an underwater theme. Nurses say the bright, light-hearted environment has been a hit with patients.
"The environment is more friendly. The kids that have gotten to stay in the rooms so far have absolutely loved it, and the parents and visitors can't say enough about how much they enjoy the environment. Even nurses and staff from other areas come by and say, 'Oh my gosh, I wish I could work in the area. Its so cute'," says Becky Carswell, a pediatric nurse.
Nurses say the underwater theme in the rooms brings the beautiful Panama City Beaches to the patients.
