String of Burglaries in Jackson Co.

Posted: Updated:

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is working on possible leads connected to a string of burglaries that took place within the last week.

Rex Wimberly tell us the burglars broke down his front door to enter his home last Wednesday morning.

"It's devastating you know. You work hard for 38 years. And in one day a lot of it is taken," says Wimberly.

Wimberly say he left his house around 6:30 AM and came home a little after noon to find his house ransacked. Valuables like jewelry and guns were all taken gone.

"A lot of keepsakes that had been given to us from my wife's parents and grandparents, and all of a sudden its gone. You know. You feel violated," says Wimberly.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office believes Wimberly's house is connected to a string of burglaries, four burglaries and one attempted that took place in Jackson County all in one day. There are also reports of similar types of crimes in about three of the surrounding counties.

"They're casing the houses out to make sure nobody's there or it appears that they are. And if they can find one there back off the road maybe not right on the road, that's what they're looking for, " says Major Donnie Branch with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office says most have taken place after the homeowner leaves for work. They're breaking in doors and taking electronics, guns, jewelry and money.
