Bay District School Officials are reminding their bus drivers of safety and security measures after a surveillance video shows a man breaking into a bus in the middle of the night.
Mosley High School's principal is still questioning how the school's security was breeched.
"This is the first time anything like that has happened," said Principal Sandy Harrison.
At around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, a man broke into one of the school buses parked at the high school's campus, started the engine and left it running until an employee coming into work found running about three hours later. But what the white male probably didn't know was once the engine turns on, so do security cameras. Everything was caught on tape.
"Our cleaning staff is here until 11pm every night so it really takes lot of fore planning it's either a really quick prank they didn't think through or it is something they thought of carefully and timed just right," Harrison added.
But Bay District Schools Executive Director Dr. John Haley doesn't believe it was a simple prank as the man in the video appears to be an adult.
"Hearing that it may be an adult poses a concern among us because we don't want anyone of adult age on campus doing something that they shouldn't be doing that is a concern to us," Haley added.
Dr. Haley says the doors on the bus was locked but the burglar was able to find his way in and once he was in he was able to turn on the ignition.
"I think the driver accidentally left a set of keys on the bus and he was able to ramble through and find the keys that the driver accidentally left on the bus," Haley said.
He adds even though school campuses have surrounding gates and security cameras, this incident raises questions of how safe campuses are overnight and it's an issue he's addressing.
"I am very concerned so I am very well no doubt going to go back to the table and take a look at different ways means and measures to provide a heighten level of security especially for our buses," said Haley.
Haley says he has already reminded all of the bus drivers to closely follow the safety and security measures in place and adds the district will look into making sure all gates on school campuses are locked overnight and the possibility of adding more secure locks on school buses.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Bay County Sheriff's Office as 747-4700 or CrimeStoppers at 785-TIPS.
