Mardi Gras Festival in Full Swing in St. Andrews

Posted: Updated:

Mardi Gras is underway in St. Andrews and thousands are already having a good time.

At the 15th Annual St. Andrews Mardi Gras Parade and Festival, there are over 100 hundred vendors with live music parades and special events.

One such event is the 2nd Annual Ragin' Cajun Cook-Off, benefiting Second Chance of Northwest Florida.

In addition to good food and good times, participants say this cook-off brings awareness to the community.

"I did win last year with my crawfish etouffee and that's what I made again this year," said participant Diane Herbert. "We're a big part of the community and we love Saint Andrews and we want to build it up again."

Herbert's etouffee was a popular item at tonight's raging Cajun cook off. She along with 20 other participants sliced, diced, stirred and served their own famous Cajun recipes...and they did not disappoint. It was a full house at the time out saloon and oyster bar.

Chef Konrad Jochun of boatyard restaurant reigned supreme tonight in tonight's restaurant category. In the personal chef category, the grand winners were Larry Fatzer, Bruce Avery, and Gary Harrison.

The festival continues tomorrow with the main parade at 2 pm.
