In celebration of national children's dental health month, the Student American Dental Hygienists' Association at Gulf Coast State College is offering free children's dental hygiene screenings.
Children ages three through twelve are invited to attend.
In addition to a cleaning, kids learn important lessons in dental hygiene, like how to properly brush their teeth.
"We brush twice a day, floss, and then we swish," says Sasha Reese.
She's one of 36 dental patients seen today at gulf coast state college's "Kids Klinic." They expect to see 110 kids through February 23rd.
Sasha's mother, Katrina Reese, says the health of her daughter takes on a deeper meaning.
"I just adopted Sasha and we came today to get a better dental history. They do a great job getting the message out to the public and making kids more comfortable about going to the dentist." Reese said.
Dental students at Gulf Coast get a chance to use the skills they learn hands on. It's a trade-off that makes students like President of SADHA, Melanie Boyd, happy to do it.
"It's great to get the young kids in to experience the dental atmosphere, we take kids anywhere from 3 to 12 and especially three year olds...they're not really used to the dentist and it's also really great because it's free," said Boyd.
Appointments are limited. Call Debbie Pringle at 872-3833 to reserve a spot.
