It looks like construction will once again be hitting the roads of Panama City beach. The Florida Department of Transportation made the announcements of two new road improvements on Tuesday afternoon.
The proposed improvements will take place on a 5.6 mile stretch of Front Beach Road and ¾ of a mile on S.R. 79, extending from Front Beach Road to Back Beach Road. DOT revealed its plans a public meeting held at the Panama City Beach City Hall Tuesday afternoon. Project managers and engineers were there answering questions for residents as well getting any input they may have. DOT spokesman Ian Satter says the projects will include resurfacing the roadway, improving sidewalks, curb ramps and pedestrian signalization.
"Every roadway has a life span so to speak and every 15 to 20 years we would like to resurface the roads. So we will be resurfacing and that will include some curb improvements that will meet the American Disability Acts as far as our cross walks and our pedestrian walkways," Satter said.
The projects are both expected to begin in the fall of 2013 and are expected to cost a total of $3.6 million dollars.
