Firefighters have contained two wildfires in northeast Bay County, that once threatened several homes.
Thursday afternoon the Florida Forest Service responded to two wildfires along State Road 20 near the Fountain area. Fire officials were able to contain the fire with containment lines.
Smoldering smoke is still affecting the areas roadways. Officials ask you to use caution as you're driving through the area. Brian Goddin of the Florida Forest Service says they've narrowed the cause of the fire down to three possibilities.
"Either arson, a lightning strike, or most likely going to be some type of equipment spark, whether it be trailer bearings or a chain, along Highway 20. At one time, our homes were threatened and the Florida Forest Service firefighters got on this thing and very quickly. Right now there are several homes that are undamaged and untouched tonight because of the quick work of our firefighters." Goddin says.
Firefighters will continue to monitor the area through
the night but again remind you to travel with caution through the over night
and morning hours.
