
The victim has been identified as 13-year-old Alexandra Powell of Alachua County.

"At approximately 1858 hrs this date, Walton County Sheriff's Office received a 9-1-1 call in reference to swimmers in distress in the Gulf in Miramar Beach. Deputies Jason Day and Tim Maiden responded to the area a saw three people in distressed. Both deputies entered the water and rescued all three from the water including a 13 year old girl who was unresponsive at the time. Once on shore deputies immediately began CPR and continued until South Walton Fire/Rescue arrived on scene. The 13 year old female was transported to Scared Heart Hospital in critical condition and later died. A second person was transported the Scared Heart, but was alert and talking. The third person was rescued from the water without further incident. Both Deputy Day and Maiden were taken to Scared Heart Hospital and treated for exhaustion and later released.
