Boy Scouts and Vets Retire American Flags

Posted: Updated:

Boy Scouts joined Veterans in Parker to retire old or worn American flags in a special ceremony Saturday.

Callaway Boy Scout Troop 345 and members of VFW Post 8205 took care to honorably incinerate the flags and salute each of them.

It is proper protocol for worn or torn flags to be disposed of and replaced with newer flags. The ashes will be buried to complete the flag retirement.

Ceremony organizers say they do this on or around every Flag Day. This year, Flag Day is June 14.
