Flag Warning System Changed to Double Red Flags

Posted: Updated:

Due to hazardous swimming conditions today in the Gulf of Mexico, The Bay County Sheriff's Office is now displaying double red flags on Flag Warning System poles along the unincorporated beaches in Bay County.

Flags along beaches in Panama City Beach city limits are also double red as well.

Double red flags indicate that the beaches are closed to the public. No one is allowed in the water due to the presence of strong currents which make swimming extremely hazardous.

The BCSO Beach Patrol Unit pulled five distressed swimmers out of Gulf waters today before noon. One required transportation to a local medical hospital, the others recovered on the beach.
