CV-22 Osprey Crashes on Eglin Range

***UPDATE***

Two Hurlburt Field Airmen have been released from the hospital, and three remain hospitalized for injuries received when their tilt-rotor aircraft crashed during a routine training mission north of Navarre, Fla. on the Eglin Range June 13.

Major Brian Luce and Tech. Sgt. Christopher Dawson have been released from Eglin Air Force Base hospital. 

Captain Brett Cassidy, Tech. Sgt. Edilberto Malave and Staff Sgt. Sean McMahon remain hospitalized at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, but are all in stable condition.

None of the injuries were life-threatening.

The 8th Special Operations Squadron who flies the CV-22 is returning to normal operations, but there is no flying until next Tuesday while squadron members continue to set up support for the injured Airmen.

A board of officials is investigating the accident. Base officials stress that the accident site may contain hazardous materials released from the crash, and ask that individuals refrain from entering the area.

(As of June 13th at 11 p.m. the most recent information concerning the CV-22 Osprey crash on Eglin Range is as follows.)

HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. – Five crew members aboard an Air Force CV-22 Osprey that crashed early this evening on the Eglin Range, north of Navarre, Fla., were taken to local area hospitals.

Two crew members were taken by ambulance, while the other three were taken via air. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

The Air Force CV-22 Osprey, assigned to the 1st Special Operations Wing, crashed at about 6:45 p.m. today.

The mishap occurred during a routine training mission.

First responders are currently on the scene.

A board of officials will convene to investigate the accident. More information will be released as it becomes available.
