Fathers took their place of honor today as families took time to remember their special guys. While some dads got an opportunity to celebrate with families for the day, others received gifts that will last a lifetime.
Baby Brihanna wasn't scheduled to enter the world until June 18th.
"Last night we came here actually," said mother, Mandy Hernandez, who said the baby couldn't wait. Or could she??
"So they told me to go home, and come back when I was getting more contractions," said Hernandez. "So I waited two hours."
Finally when the family returned early this afternoon Brihanna gave her dad the gift worth waiting for.
"This my first little baby," said Moises Hernandez. "This is my first."
"I told him happy Father's Day," said Mandy Hernandez.
Grandfathers on both sides of the family were there to join the celebration after Brihanna arrived. Her mother Mandy knows how special the relationship between a girl and her dad can be.
"[Our relationship] is very close, I'm a daddy's girl lets just put it that way," said Mandy Hernandez. "[My dad] was happy. I think he was more excited then he was."
Moises says now that he's a father it gives a whole new perspective on what this day means.
"Well before, I knew Father's Day as 'oh its Father's Day'," said Moises Hernandez. "I would just go say 'hi' to my dad and say 'Happy Father's Day,' but now I'm so happy. It's like my big big present."
Even now holding his baby girl in his arms words can't quite keep up with the emotions.
"Oh man... its something beautiful. Like I said I cant explain it. Its a lot of emotion. I want to scream cause I'm so happy," said Moises.
A family at Bay Medical Center also welcomed a new baby on Father's Day. Congratulations to the Brook's family. Their new daughter was born at 7:30pm and weighed 6 pounds fifteen ounces. She has one older sister, Courtney. The baby girl was a surprise though, parents thought they were having a boy and are still thinking of a name for their new pink bundle of joy.
I'd also like to say Happy Father's Day to my dad Michael Dobridnia all the way in Cranston, Rhode Island. I love you and Happy Father's day Papa.
