Man Charged with Shooting Windows out of Business

UPDATE: The Panama City Police Department has made additional criminal charges to Richard L. Gillespie, 33 years of age. Gillespie was charged today with shooting into an unoccupied structure and discharging a firearm within 1000 feet of a person, both are felonies. The charges were added to Gillespie at the Bay County Jail where he is being held on the original charge of felony criminal mischief since his arrest on June 21, 2012.

The Panama City Police Department announces the arrest of Richard L. Gillespie, 33 years of age. Gillespie was arrested on a warrant at his residence in Springfield at approximately 9:48 a.m., on June 21, 2012, for felony Criminal Mischief.

Panama City Police detectives obtained the arrest warrant for Gillespie following the investigation into a shooting incident that caused over $1,000.00 in damage to a local business. The investigation began on June 16, 2012, at approximately 4:00 a.m. when Panama City Police officers responded to a shots fired call near Schlotzsky's Deli located at 4306 W. Hwy. 98 in Panama City.

Officers located several large glass windows and glass doors at the business that were shattered from gunshots. The business was closed at the time of the shooting and was unable to open for business the next day until the damage was repaired. Gillespie was identified as a suspect in the case and was an employee of the business until he was terminated in April, 2012. Gillespie was booked into the Bay County Jail for the charge.
