Motorcycle Crash Investigation Continues

Posted: Updated:

34 year old Steven Smith died last night from injuries he sustained in Wednesday nights crash.

Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the crash. When a death occurs in any accident it is required by the state that the investigation is completed. That's why Panama City Police are still examining the case.

Smith who was riding over the Hathaway bridge Wednesday night reportedly collided with friend and fellow rider Daniel Lemon.

Lemon was able to maintain control of his own bike and was not hurt. Smith passed away at Bay Medical Center the next day.

Lieutenant Robert Luther with Panama City Police says speed may be a factor in the wreck and special investigative tools are used specifically for crashes involving motorcycles.

"As you know when you investigate a crash its something that already happened so we've actually got to go backwards in time," said Luther. "Evidence is different than in a vehicle. The person usually separates from the bike and that leaves a different type of evidence so our traffic unit does receive specialized training in that area."

No charges are expected to be filed. After WMBB posted the story about Smith's death on our Facebook page the story got a lot of comments. Smith also known as "Teddy" was well known in the community. If you would like to add your comments go to our Facebook page.
