Rainy weather couldn't put a damper on big day for Bay County Veterans.
The Bay County Veterans center held it's grand opening Saturday. The 3,600 square foot facility in Lynn Haven originally opened up in October 2011, but on Saturday they made it official.
"This is a huge win for our community, for the veterans that make it up, and for our citizens," Congressman Steve Southerland said.
Congressman Southerland was one of the special guests in attendance for the ribbon cutting. In addition to counseling for veterans, the center will be provide services for victims of sexual assault while on active duty, and for families of service men and women
"We are veteran rich here in Bay County, so anytime we expand our services to our veterans I think it just says we are a country that values their contribution," Southerland said
Lynn Haven Mayor Walter Kelly was also on hand for the festivities.
"I'm a veteran myself, and I know the veterans need help when they come out, especially after leaving combat," Mayor Kelley said.
Life after combat often comes with a rough readjustment period for returning soldiers. The message they hoped to spread Saturday is that their doors are always open
The facility is located on 3109 Minnesota Ave in Lynn Haven. It's open Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
