Sharon Sheffield Park was the center of a heated debate at this afternoons Lynn Haven city commission meeting. City officials have previously held meetings to discuss potential upgrades to the park, but residents expressed their disapproval of any upgrades.
Sharon Sheffield Park is a focal point in the community which hosts many of the city's special events. Commissioner Roger Schad addressed residents at the end of tonight's meeting regarding solicitation at the park during last Tuesday's concert series.
"Those concerts are there for the enjoyment for the citizens," said Commissioner Schad. "It's not to be used as a political forum. It's not to be used as a private enterprise for anybody else that tries to get up and sell something or have a gripe. I'm not kidding if it happens again I'll stop them.
"I would like to keep the park natural," said Lynn Haven resident Libby Tunnell. "And I wish y'all would listen to us and let us know your plans."
Mayor Walter Kelley said that any plans made for the park would be brought before the commission for a vote.
