Buses Project to Bring Tourists Inland

Posted: Updated:

While most tourists come to see the World's Most Beautiful Beaches, soon there maybe a way for them to see some of the lesser known treasures further inland.

Tourist Development Councils of Washington and Jackson Counties is teaming up to start a bus tour to take tourists from the coast and introduce them to what the inland counties have to offer.

This idea has been in the works for a few years now, and now both the Washington and Jackson County Commissions have approved to advertise for a tour operator.

The idea behind the project is to take tourists who may be ready for a break from the beach and bus them to the natural, historical, and cultural attractions in the two inland counties.

If approved, both the county commissions will fund the bus tours evenly.

Pam Fuqua with the Jackson County TDC says if this project comes to fruition, it will have a great economic impact on the area.

"Hopefully they'll come back. They'll say 'hey let's spend the night, let's visit. Let's do the historical sites, the caverns, the state parks.' You never know," says Fuqua. "But anything they want to do, we want them to come back."

The details like where the buses will leave from and how long the tours will be are still being discussed.
