Chemical Mix Causes Resort Pool Deck to be Closed; One Sent to Hospital

An employee mixing pool chemicals set off a chemical reaction that forced the closure of the pool deck at Tower 1 at Edgewater Beach Resort.

First responders from the Panama City Beach Fire Department, Panama City Beach Police Department and the Bay County Hazmat team were dispatched to the pool area about 2:30 p.m. this afternoon when chlorine was mixed with muratic acid causing toxic fumes.

According to the PCB Fire Department, one juvenile was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The pool deck was closed to the public as the fumes were dissipated. It is expected to reopen this afternoon.
