A Laurel Hill man is dead after suffering a heart attack and crashing his pickup truck into another vehicle at a convenience store in Walton County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident happened at a Tom Thumb store on U.S. Highway 331 North at 8:00 a.m. Saturday.

The FHP said a GMC pickup truck with Christopher Shawn Laird, 39, at the wheel backed out of a parking space and struck an unoccupied Chevrolet pickup parked at a gas pump.  A witness told the investigating trooper that he saw Laird slumped over the steering wheel as his truck traveled in reverse.

Laird was taken to a Florala, Alabama hospital and was pronounced dead at 10:37 a.m.

A woman and two year old child in Laird's truck were not injured.
