If you've ever dreamed of being a pilot, now's your chance. Gulf Coast State College will soon offer a program to teach ground school aviation. The college is partnering with a Panama City flight school to offer classes this fall.
Representatives from Gulf Coast and the Precision Flight Training school got together at a press conference to make it official Wednesday. The college was looking to partner up with a flight school to offer classes, and approached PFT. The school is located at Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport.
"This ground school is a formal classroom instruction where we will prepare the students for their private pilot FAA test," PFT co-owner George Rampulla said.
For $750 dollars, plus the cost of books and materials, students will be able to take an 8 week course and learn the ins and outs of flying.
After the course, students will have the opportunity to go out with flight instructors Frank Gorham and Fred Melcher, who combined have decades of experience. Gorham alone has more than 50 years.
"Flying has been a hobby, a passion, a job at times," said flight instructor Frank Gorham. "Now it's back to a hobby again."
The hope is the course will bring people to the area, and attract them to the art of flying...no matter their background.
Classes will start August 21 and end Oct 11 , every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. They will take place in Student Union West 307. To sign register, visit http://www.gulfcoast.edu/continuingEd/PrecisionFlightTraining.htm
