FDOT Announces 389 Project

Posted: Updated:

An upcoming Florida Department of Transportation project is giving a new look to a portion of State Road 389, East Avenue.

This 1.4 million dollar project will cover the three mile strip of State Road 389 from 15th Street to 231.

Beginning in spring of 2014, the project will concentrate on resurfacing the road and take care of minor drainage improvements. Other work will include new striping, reflectors, and some bike lanes.

The work is scheduled to be at night, and no detours are expected, just some possible lane reductions.

Thursday night's open house allowed residents to learn about the improvements and offer up any comments and concerns.

FDOT representatives say this project will make for a smoother safer ride. "We to get out there and resurface it now before you start seeing the real problems," says Ian Satter with FDOT. "Before you start see pot holes. Before you start seeing the asphalt break up. Before erosion starts to happen on the side of the road. We we want to get out there ahead of it, and we want to get out there and resurface and do that before any major problems occur."

This project is expected to be finished within the year of it's start date.
