The Bay County Sheriff's Office is asking for the help of the public to identify the person or persons responsible for random gunfire at vehicles and businesses early this morning on Thomas Drive, Panama City Beach.
At about 3 a.m. today a woman cleaning at a business located at 3706 Thomas Drive heard gunshots and called 911. When deputies responded, they recovered four 380 auto casings, and found the two back windows to the woman's van were shot out. Deputies also discovered the glass door to the business next door at 3702 Thomas Drive, had been shattered as well. As deputies were gathering a statement from the woman and processing the scene, they heard additional gunshots from a neighborhood behind the business. A deputy was sent to that area but did not find anything suspicious.
While processing the scene at 3706 Thomas Drive, deputies spotted a charcoal gray Jeep Cherokee traveling at a high rate of speed as it headed north on Thomas Drive. The vehicle did not have its headlights on. A deputy pursued the vehicle but because it was already so far ahead and traveling at a high speed, it got away.
The BCSO received another report of gunshot damage to the front door of a dive shop located at 104 Thomas Drive shortly after eight this morning as employees came to work.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Bay County Sheriff's Office at 747-4700 or Crime Stoppers at 785-TIPS.
