Judge Rules in Panhandle Water Battle

Posted: Updated:

A judge hands down a ruling in the battle over water between two Panhandle counties, but there's still no resolution.

On Thursday a judge in Tallahassee recommended the Northwest Florida Water Management District deny Bay County's request to build a new well field. The proposed well field site is in the Sand Hill Lakes region in Bay County that sits just below Washington County.

The Knight Family, who owns thousands of acres near the proposed site, joined forces with Washington County to stop the project---they claim it would dry their reservoirs.

Bay County says the wells would be for emergency purposes, but Thursday's ruling states the permit does not have limits. The water management district issued its original notice for approval in 2010.

They are reviewing the judge's ruling, no word yet on when they will make a final decision.
