
The Walton County Sheriff's Office is investigating an early morning shooting that left a man critically injured. That victim had to be life flighted to a Pensacola hospital. His nephew is charged with the crime!
The Sheriff's Office is calling this a family argument gone wrong.
Around 8 am Friday morning, they responded to the scene at 218 Grantham Street off Mussett Bayou Rd in Santa Rosa Beach.
They report the 34 year old victim was allegedly shot by his 29 year old nephew following an argument that had started the night before and continued into the morning.
The nephew then called authorities to report the incident and to turn himself in. WCSO arrived soon after with EMS personelle.
The victim was taken to a local hospitial before he was lifeflighted to Bapist Hospital in Pensacola.
Details are limited at this time, but News 13 has learned the victim is currently in surgery. The Sheriff's Office was unable to confirm his condition.
Walton County Sheriff's Office PIO, Wendy Ammons, said shootings are a rare occurance in the county and they are continuing to investigate the unfortunate incident.
"They made contact with the caller, who had said that he had shot his Uncle over and argument that had occured. Investigators and crime scene are still out there and still looking into the investigation. It's not very common here, so when it does happen, it's pretty shocking for all of us," said Ammons.

Details are limited at this time, as investigators are still gathering information from witnesses and processing the crime scene. According to information gathered, an argument between a nephew and uncle that started last night and continued this morning was the spark that led to the shooting. The nephew shot his uncle an undisclosed number of times, left and called 911 from another relative's home stating that he had shot his uncle and wanted to turn himself in.
Deputies arrived on scene, along with EMS who transported the uncle to the hospital. He was then transported by life-flight to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola. His condition is unknown at the time of this press release.
