Autopsy: Thompson Died From Infection - WMBB News 13 - The Panhandle's News Leader

Results from the Medical Examiner's office are in and we now know what caused the late Callaway Mayor's death.

According to the autopsy report, Mayor Bob Thompson contracted apophysomyces, it's a type of fungus found in warm climates. The Center for Disease Control says it is contracted through an open wound.

The Medical Examiner found traces of the fungal elements in the heart, lung and kidney. Thompson died on May 26^th, a month after he took office.

Thompson's wife, Reeda Thompson says she will not be filing any lawsuits against the city.
