Program Gives Backpacks to Military Kids

With the start of school in less than two weeks, it's time to gather up the school supplies, and one organization is helping provide these necessities for one special group.

The Back to School Brigade at Tyndall Air Force Base will donate over 400 backpacks with school supplies to military families to help cut some of the back to school costs.

Last year, the nationwide event raised over 2.5 million dollars in money and school supplies to donate to military families, including over 30 thousand backpacks. Donations, families say, go a long way.

"It feels really good that they're here just to help us for, any military kids that need help with school supplies, because it is really hard to get school supplies that we really need. It's just really great that they help us," says Tasha Duong, a 16 year old military dependent.

"It really helps out a lot. We're a young family. We're only A1C. We're a family of five and this really help on our pocketbook with being able to have donations and back packs provided," says Dana Smith Gravenor.
