A week before a Panama City Beach man gets his day in court, attorneys debate a stand your ground motion.
Judge Michael Overstreet heard motions filed by attorneys for 31-year-old Patrick Michael Bass who is charged with manslaughter and a felon in possession of a firearm.
Bass is believed to be the shooter in the shooting death of 42-year-old Anthony Petracca. He was not present at Thursday's hearing, but his attorney argues he should be protected under the stand your ground law.
Judge Overstreet over ruled that motion because Bass is a convicted felon in North Carolina.
"Your defendant… acknowledged he was the same person. I haven't heard anything to suggest that there is any doubt on anyone's part, that this defendant is not the same person that was convicted in North Carolina." Overstreet said.
A jury is expected to be selected on Monday.
