North Bay Haven Close To Landing New Home

Lynn Haven, Fla. -

School is set to open in just a few days, but officials at North Bay Haven Charter Academy are already thinking beyond that. Thursday, the North Bay Haven board of directors discussed a possible new home for their students.

The school has been temporarily located on Balboa ave in the old Panama City Christian school building, next to the Central Baptist Church.

The new school would be located on Highway 390, less than a couple of miles away from the original Bay Haven Charter school.

The board of directors discussed their plans to house 1,600 hundred students in a facility that would also include it's own gymnasium and ball fields. The school would purchase the 40 acres of land from the original developer for about $1.8 million dollars.

The city of Lynn Haven gave their blessing to the project yesterday, and the hope on Thursday was that the contract for the land would be approved by the North Bay Haven board. However, academy CEO Dr. Tim Kitts says the contract still needs a bit of work.

"How the money is held in escrow, or the exact location of the utilities under the roadway that would be used for access to the school...there's small things like that have to be taken care of," Dr. Kitts said.

The board is expected to approve the final contract with the owner, D&H properties next Thursday at 4pm. Dr. Kitts says if all goes well, on an "aggressive schedule," the school would be open to at least some of the students for the 2013-2014 school year.
