State Attorney Bill Eddins announced that on August 16, 2012, a Walton County Jury found Billy Thomas Daugherty guilty of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation on a child under 12 years old and guilty of Solicitation of a Child under 18 for Sexual Battery by a Person in a Familial Position.

In August 2011, the defendant's four-year-old family member disclosed that the defendant committed various sexual acts on him while the child spent the night with the defendant. The child's mother reported the disclosure to Walton County Sheriff's Office.

Circuit Judge Kelvin C. Wells scheduled sentencing for October 18, 2012. Daugherty faces a potential 35 year sentence in the Department of Corrections with 25 years minimum mandatory incarceration followed by probation for life and a requirement that he register as a Sexual Predator.

The investigation and arrest were conducted by Walton County Sheriff's Office and the Children's Advocacy Center. The case was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Jennifer Lieb.
