UPDATED: Man Shot in Early Morning Incident in Walton County

Posted: Updated:

Walton County Sheriff's Deputies are still investigating a shooting early Thursday morning in Ponce De Leon. Investigators believe this could be a case of domestic violence.

News 13 arrived on scene as deputies were still hard at work piecing together Thursday morning's incident.

Around 6:15 am, the Walton county Sheriff's office arrived to find Britt McHenry suffering from a gun shot wound to the jaw. His girlfriend, Lora Miller, also sustained injuries to the face.

McHenry's aunt alerted authorities that Miller called her to report McHenry's gunshot injury.

Both were taken to the hospital, where Miller was later released.

News 13 was on scene as Miller arrived and was taken into custody on an unrelated charge of felony drug possession.

Also on scene were the wife and children of McHenry. They declined to speak to reporters.

At last report, McHenry was still in surgery but is expected to recover.

Meanwhile, no arrests have been made related to the shooting. This investigation is on going.

Public Information Officer, Wendy Ammons, said shootings are rare in Walton County.

"There is a good possibility that this is a domestic violence issue. We are still investigating at this time. Our staff is highly qualified to investigate these type of incidents and when it deals with a shooting, especially in the area where it's not very prevalent, we take these things very seriously and we put forth maximum effort to make sure these cases are solved," said Ammons.

Again, this is an ongoing investigation. Stay tuned to News 13 for the latest.

At approximately 6:16 a.m., Walton County deputies responded to a possible domestic violence call at 202 Mack Edwards Road, Ponce De Leon.  According to the caller, her nephew's girlfriend contacted her and told her she needed help because her boyfriend had sustained a gunshot injury.

Upon arrival, deputies and EMS attended to both subjects.  The male subject suffered from a gunshot wound to the face in the jaw area and the female had facial injuries.  Both were transported by EMS to a local hospital where they are being currently being treated.

Investigators have been called out to assist in the investigation.  It is still very early in the investigation and as more details become available, they will be released.
