Pedestrian Killed In Early Morning Accident

Update From Panama City Police Department:

The Panama City Police Department is investigating a traffic crash involving the death of a pedestrian that occurred at 15th Street and M.L.K. Boulevard at approximately 6:00 am on September 22, 2012. Panama City Police officers responded to the scene and the pedestrian was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. He was later pronounced deceased from injuries received during the crash.

The deceased pedestrian has been identified as a 56-year-old Samuel L. Davis.

During the investigation investigators learned that a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Darrell Clanton, 49 years of age, was traveling east on Hwy. 98 in the outside lane with the flow of traffic. The pedestrian stepped from the curb of the southeast corner to cross the roadway northbound into the path of the Cavalier. The front right corner of the vehicle struck the pedestrian. No charges are pending for the driver of the vehicle as east bound traffic had the right of way.

Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian on the intersection of 15th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Panama City.

Sgt. Jon Morris with the Panama City Police Department says around 6 this morning, a black male, 55 to 60 years old, was attempting to cross Northbound at the crosswalk on 15th street. He says at the same time, a 2003 green Chevy Cavalier was heading Eastbound on 15th street. Sgt. Morris says the vehicle had the right of way and the man was crossing against the traffic. Witnesses say the man was struck and landed several yards away from the intersection.

The man was rushed to Bay Medical, but died from his injuries.

Police have not yet released the victim's name.
