During the political season, people tend to show their patriotism a bit more. But its unusual to see children doing the same.
That's what makes one group of first graders so special.
First graders in Mrs. Prevost's elementary class at Merriam Cherry Street School learned to recite and sign the Preamble of the Constitution.
They've been practicing for quite some time and nailed it to a "T".
This group also learned some patriotic songs like America The Beautiful, which they recited for us.
Mrs. Prevost, their teacher, says her class was eager to learn them as part of Constitution Week.
"I know that they will remember this for the rest of their lives. But more importantly, it will empower them to be more active citizens and that they will be able to feel more connected to the things that make us American. "
The Preamble to the United States Constitution is a brief introductory statement of the Constitution's fundamental purposes and guiding principles. A great history lesson today at Cherry Street Elementary.
