Teacher contract negotiations continue tonight as ABCE representatives are meeting for the third time with District officials.
The main discussion at Tuesday's meeting surrounded healthcare. Insurance rates have increased 6.9 percent for individual rates, around 500 per teacher. The board says it would be willing to pick up that additional coast so teachers wont have to pay more in return for other items in the contract like a decrease in the supplement for teaching an extra period.
What we're asking them to give upon doesn't affect a whole lot of people," says the Pat Martin with the District's negotiation team. "Understand they represent everyone, but what they're getting in return are benefits for a very large segment of the people they represent."
However, representatives from the teacher's union believes items like decreasing the supplement is unfair for teachers.
"It certainly would not be nice to have another 500 dollar taken away from us. On the other hand, we like all of America have been wincing over the economy. We've not had a raise in many years and other things in the contract matter."
