Panama City Beach, Fla. -

The U.S. District 2 congressional seat race between congressman Steve Southerland and Al Lawson was a close race, but incumbent congressman Steve Southerland is the projected winner.

Southerland edged out Lawson 53 percent to 47 percent. Southerland's supporters gathered to celebrate at the Edgewater Beach Resort in Panama City Beach. In his victory speech, he thanked voters for giving him another chance to represent Florida in Washington D.C., and he also thanked his family for the ongoing support. He also says that he plans on working with both Democrats and Republicans to get the country back on track.

"We're gonna serve as hard as we can for those who supported us, and those that didn't give us a chance this time," Southerland said. "We're here to represent all, and so I just want to say thank you for the privilege I now have to serve a second term."

Southerland says after spending some more time with his family this week he's off to Washington D.C. next Tuesday to continue his work.
