The 2012 F16 National Championships head to Bay County this weekend. The St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club hosts Nationals, which boasts 48 teams from over a dozen different states and six countries. The competition begins Friday, and continues through Sunday.
Two Bay Countians, Taylor Reiss and Matthew Whitehead, who played second at last year's F-16 Nationals, will not be racing together for one of the few times in their careers, and they agree it'll be a little strange out on the water.
"We're still partners, but we're just on different boats," says Matthew. "We're training partners now instead of actual sailing partners."
"It's definitely different, but it's fun," says Taylor. "It's good to be friends with who you're competing with."
"We'll support each other out on the race course, before the race, kind of prepare together," agrees Matthew. "We'll be a team all the way up until the start of the race, and then we're competitors."
The best viewing areas for this weekend's regatta is the Panama City Marina, or along Beach Drive. Friday's racing starts at noon.
