In Bay County, thousands of veterans are being honored, but there is one group whose numbers are dwindling, now down to about fifty. Sunday, the Woman's Club of Panama City hosted the largest gathering of World War Two veterans still living in the Bay County area.
Thirty two members of the so called "Greatest Generation", were honored at a Veterans Day luncheon.
Mayor Greg Budnicki and county commission chairman George Gainer issued proclamations, and the Gulf Coast State College Choir performed patriotic songs.
One of the veterans in attendance was James Giles, who enlisted in the Navy just four days after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and served on the USS Vincennes, a ship that was later destroyed.
