Arnold's JoJo Booker- Scholar Athlete of the Week

Posted: Updated:

Last Tuesday night, the Arnold Lady Marlin volleyball team wrapped up their season, falling in four sets to Gulf Breeze. Less then 24 hours later, JoJo Booker was back out on the court- this time in basketball sneakers.

JoJo takes the term "multi-sport athlete" to a whole other level, as this season, she helped lead the volleyball team to their first 20 win season. She helped lead the Lady Marlins basketball team to back to back district runner-up finishes as a Sophomore and Junior, and last year, helped the softball team to the Elite Eight- their best season in history.

"My mom actually tried to talk me out of it," laughs JoJo. "She said no, you just need to do softball, that's your best sport. I said, no, I want to do all three, I love playing."

"She is absolutely nuts for doing what she does," says head basketball coach Bryan Normand. "I don't recommend that anybody does it. I admire everything that she's done here at Arnold, and she's a rare athlete, and she has truly been a joy to coach."

A rare athlete that even between juggling three sports, JoJo also makes time for school, boasting a 3.3 GPA, something that sometimes all her teammates find hard to believe.

"They're like JoJo, you're a robot, you're like a beast! I mean, I just do it. I love it. If you love it, it's not that hard," she says.

"A lot of times during the JV game, you'll see her in the bleachers doing homework," says coach Normand. "That's how important academics are to her. It's not just the sports she excels in, she excels in the classroom."

That hard work in the books transfers over not only to the court, as JoJo is just shy of 1000 career points, on of the first at Arnold to reach that milestone, but also to the field- as she has several offers to continue playing softball in college.

"When I got older I realized softball was the sport I was best in," says JoJo. "Whichever one I got the best scholarship in was the one I was going to take. I'm just really blessed. I'm just thankful that God gave me these talents to play all three of these sports, I'm just very blessed."

Blessed, or a little bit crazy, depending on who you might ask. JoJo says she plans on making a late decision on her college choice, deciding after softball season, and says she wants to study sport medicine in college.
